Microsoft Is Here to Save Macs from Viruses, Malware (Really)

Microsoft Defender ATP on Mac can run on devices running macOS Mojave, macOS High Sierra, or macOS Sierra.

The initial preview of Defender for Mac will focus on signature-based malware detection. Security updates and technical assistance will no longer be available as Microsoft moves its resources towards supporting its newer technologies, such as Windows 10. We're looking forward to finding out how Microsoft Defender for Mac does against third-party Mac antivirus software, and against Apple's built-in XProtect antivirus software.

Microsoft has confirmed that it is bringing Defender to the Mac, with the anti-virus software being renamed from the more familiar Windows Defender name.

Microsoft is now calling Windows Defender as Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection, instead of Windows Defender ATP.
