NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea tweeted that the attack happened on March 10, 2019 at Nereid Ave Station in the Bronx.

Warning: Video of the attack, seen below, may be hard to watch for some viewers.

The seemingly unprovoked attack was caught on camera, and sparked outrage nationwide because witnesses were seen filming the attack rather than intervening and trying to help the 78-year-old woman.

Before the attacker left the train, he shouted about WorldStar, a media outlet that often contains violent videos. After the incident, the woman rode the train one more northbound stop and was met by EMS when she exited the train, the NYPD said in a statement.

The victim suffered bleeding and swelling was treated by paramedics at the station, but she turned-down further medical assistance. He was apprehended on Saturday, Shea said.
