This Syracuse Orange starting guard is suspended ‘indefinitely.’ Watch your bracket

No. 8 Syracuse is set to make their fortieth tournament run beginning Thursday night against No. 9 Baylor in Salt Lake City.

Tyus Battle, Howard's backcourt mate, would seem a likely candidate, though Boeheim would not tip his hand.

Asked if Howard had made the trip to Salt Lake City, and whether Howard might be available should the Orange advance, all Boeheim said was, "He won't be here with us tomorrow".

Baylor is returning to the tournament after missing out on last year's Big Dance. He told reporters Wednesday that he and his teammates found out about Howard's suspension "when you guys found out".

Syracuse will have to take on Baylor without senior point guard Frank Howard.

Howard averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 assists, and two rebounds in 29 games this season.

The suspension for Howard comes just as Syracuse expected to get back to full strength.

The is the third all-time meeting between Syracuse and Baylor with the Orange having won both previous matchups, in the 2006 and 2013 regular seasons.

"It's tough", Battle said. "We've played without players before ... so if we play our game, we'll be fine". The victor will go on to play No. 1 Gonzaga, and Boeheim declined to say whether Howard, should the Orange advance Thursday, might be activated for that game.
