Gmail and Google Drive services temporarily disrupted in Japan and globally

At 5.13PM AEDT, Google reported the outage over and services restored, the Google Service Status links below have the full text.

Google had also reported issues with its app engine and cloud storage, with the issue appearing to impact services such as Google Maps with users who try to access Street View greeted with a black screen instead of images of the input location.

According to the report, they shared that people are unable to send out emails using their Gmail accounts. "The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behaviour".

While Google is yet to address issues with Gmail, Downtector.com.au reported on its outage map users along the US's west coast, Japan, India and Australia have all been having issues using the email since about 1.30pm AEST. "We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support". The outage lasted for a total of three hours and twenty minutes, as per the Google dashboard.

As of 1pm, the issues were still continuing for some users. Drive: "Upload and download of files", said the company in the latest update posted at 10.14 am.

Google Drive over at Down Detector also shows a major outage is in progress. "They should just declare an International Non-Working Holiday #GmailDown", one user said on Twitter.
