Chelsea Clinton Rebukes Ilhan Omar Over 'Anti-Semitic Tropes'

Omar replied, "It's all about the Benjamins baby", and in a subsequent tweet confirmed she was referring to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Omar promptly deleted that "hook-nosed" retweet when even more people accused her of being an anti-Semite.

He says Omar told these groups that Israel and Palestine issues were not her main priorities, but that doesn't appear to have been the truth. "Congresswoman Omar's comments are deeply hurtful to Jews, including myself", he wrote.

He said that Israel is an indispensable USA strategic ally in the Middle East, and it's "immoral" for Omar to suggest that Jews have "bought off" members of Congress. Omar is facing blowback from Democrats and Republicans after retweeting The Intercept reporter Glenn Greenwald's criticism of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who promised "action" against the Minnesota Democrat and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for their critical stance on Israel.

Conway added that she would like to see Democratic presidential hopefuls asked if they agree with Omar's comments on the Israel lobby.

Mr McCarthy himself faced condemnation a year ago for a now-deleted tweet that suggested billionaire Jewish donors were attempting to "buy" the mid-term elections.

AIPAC's own website explains how its Congressional Club members must "Make a minimum financial commitment of $2,500 a year, or $5,000 per two-year election cycle, to pro-Israel politics", and commit to "giving political contributions in a clearly pro-Israel context to candidates running for the United States House of Representatives and/or United States Senate". "Her words are deeply hurtful and offensive". In 2018, AIPAC spent more than $3.5 million lobbying for pro-Israel measures, according to lobbying disclosure filings maintained by the Senate's Office of Public Records.

Host Bill Hemmer noted that Democrats like Chelsea Clinton and Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.) have called out Omar, which King applauded while noting the Democratic leadership has been "shamefully silent".

"It's clear that congresswoman Ilhan Omar harbors deep-seated anti-Semitic views", Carnahan said in a statement.

Shapiro continued on Twitter that "Some of us remained uncomfortably quiet after her BDS flip-flop & other offensive remarks because we were aware of efforts to work with her: by colleagues, party leaders, her local Jewish community". "And I believe we can do that without criticizing people for their faith", Omar tweeted at the former first daughter.
