Raptors trade Valanciunas to Grizzlies for Gasol in 4-player deal

Center Marc Gasol has many talents, and one is defense, as he won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award back in 2013.

Gasol spent his teenage years in Memphis after his brother, Pau, was traded to the club in 2001 and blossomed into a high school basketball star before his 11-year run with the organization. Both teams have yet to confirm the deal.

The three-time All-Star big man has spent his entire National Basketball Association career with the Memphis Grizzlies, but the franchise is entering a rebuilding stage.

With an hour to go before the National Basketball Association trade deadline, the Toronto Raptors have pulled the trigger on a major trade according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Gasol, a second-round pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, will now get to play for a legitimate NBA Finals contender in the Raptors.

"I don't understand why Mike is in those talks", Gasol told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

The Raptors are planning to deal away their former fifth overall draft pick (2011) Jonas Valanciunas along with Delon Wright and C.J. Miles to Memphis.

The Raptors are able to get Gasol without giving up a first-round pick.

The trade comes after a flurry of activity in the Eastern Conference that saw several potential playoff opponents of the Raptors make moves to bolster their squads.

The Utah Jazz haven't been involved in a trade yet - at least not one that's gone public - but former Beehive State players Delon Wright and C.J. Miles will reportedly have new National Basketball Association homes. Or against the Milwaukee Bucks, who just added Nikola Mirotic?

The NBA's trade deadline is at 3 p.m. E.T. Stay tuned.
