Indeed, the former Manchester United boss bit the dust in embarrassing fashion at the weekend while attending an ice hockey game as a VIP guest in Russian Federation.

While no official information regarding Mourinho's visit has been announced, it is expected that the 55-year-old will make a ceremonial puck drop at the Balashikha arena on Monday.

As he turned to walk off the ice, and then back to shake hands with the players, he slipped on the red carpet and fell backwards before being helped up by SKA player and two-time Stanley Cup victor Pavel Datsyuk.

Mourinho was eventually helped to his feet by SKA captain Pavel Datsyuk and Omsk captain Evgeny Medvedev made sure the coach didn't forget to take the puck with him as a souvenir.

The misfortune just seems to be stacking up for Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese manager to struggle in the wake of losing one of the most prestigious managerial jobs in world football.

He inspected the room full of skates for the players before watching the side get put through their paces on the ice before the evening's games.

He has handled Manchester United in 10 games since December 2018 without a defeat.

Appearing on beIN Sport Mourinho suggested he will seek a return to football in March but for now he enjoys other projects.
