Man Utd begin talks to sign Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona

Aspiazu confirmed after the cup defeat by Levante that Coutinho has slipped down the pecking order at the Nou Camp, but did offer words of encouragement for the former Liverpool star.

Since moving to France, though, he has been regularly linked with a return to Spain, previously with Real Madrid but more recently with Barcelona.

United have 'contacted the agents of the football player to ask about their situation and make them see that they would be very interested in trying to undertake their signing, ' report Catalan based press Mundo Deportivo.

Marca are reporting that Coutinho's confidence has taken a massive hit after his recent performances and that he's now at "rock bottom".

Barça spent months attempting to prise Coutinho away from Liverpool and eventually succeeded last January after a €140m agreement was struck. But things haven't worked out for the Brazilian, who has failed to replicate the form that persuaded Barcelona to cough up for his services.

Coutinho is willing to wait out the current troublesome spell, the report adds, and will not look to give up his dream of becoming a Barca success story just yet.

Coutinho instantly won silverware upon his move last season, joining up with a Barca side who were well in front in the race for the La Liga title. The La Liga leaders are looking to cash in on to fund a move for Neymar. "It would be different if we hadn't believed in him [and let him leave] and now we wanted to bring him back, but that's not the case".

Arsenal could be completing their first signing at the ongoing transfer market any time soon as they are closer to sealing a deal with Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez. So there seems no reason to buy an attacking player.
