So many people get hurt in the bloody 'Punisher' Season 2 trailer

As the teaser informed us, Jon Bernthal's skull emblazoned vigilante will be facing off against former best friend Billy Russo (Ben Barnes) who has now gone full villain as he embraces his comic book Jigsaw persona.

Bendix is an obscure Marvel Comics character who first appeared in The Punisher comics for two issues. Three others were cancelled recently - Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage - suggesting that the fate of the remaining two (Punisher and Jessica Jones) may likewise remain precarious.

On Thursday, Netflix released The Punisher Season 2 trailer on YouTube, which shows Russo sporting a gruesome-looking mask during a merciless spree to find Castle.

The Punisher arrives on January 18.

Throughout the (re) introduction to Jigsaw and The Punisher's past, strains from Alice in Chains classic "Would" swell.

In Season 2, Jon Bernthal returns as Frank Castle, who up until now has been living a quiet life out on the road. Are you excited for Season 2 of The Punisher?

It's perhaps a little ironic that the bright spot on the horizon right now comes in the form of the very darkest of the series that Marvel/Netflix have co-produced, but with thirteen hours of the continuing story of Frank Castle still to be watched, there's plenty to look forward to.

"If the first season of The Punisher was a meditation on the cost of violence, The Punisher Season 2 is mostly about the violence itself - and oh, what mighty violence there is to behold".

The Punisher is executive produced by Steve Lightfoot along with Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.

The Punisher Season 2 bursts onto Netflix on January 18.
