Sam Darnold impressed with new Jets head coach Adam Gase

As of now, there are also still jobs open with the Miami Dolphins and Cincinnati Bengals. He was sacked after going 7-9 this season.

The Jets had reportedly been interested in hiring Baylor head coach Matt Rhule.

According to reports, the Jets have interviewed McCarthy, Jim Caldwell, Todd Monken, Eric Bieniemy and Adam Gase for the position.

According to ESPN's Jeff Darlington, a deal between the Jets and Gase will be finalized late Wednesday or early Thursday.

The Jets job was widely considered to be one of the most attractive among the eight coaching vacancies in the National Football League this offseason.
