Gibson later backed up Metz by revealing that he thought she said Alison is "such a babe".
For what it's worth, Metz took to Twitter later in the night to refute the claim that she used the expletive.
This Is Us may be a family-friendly show, but some people think its star Chrissy Metz had some non-PG words for fellow actress Alison Brie at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. Metz wrote. "I adore Alison and would never say a bad word about her, or anyone!"
But the controversy erupted after Metz's seemingly off-camera comments were heard, with some believing Metz called 36-year-old Brie a "b**ch" though the audio cuts off.
While speaking with Variety, Metz said she got in touch with Brie soon after to clear the air. "I'm so distraught and upset", she told People at the awards show.

Nicole Sperling, a reporter from Vanity Fair, even took a moment to ask Brie about the situation, of which she seemed to have little knowledge. "'I know her. I saw her on the carpet and I told her how attractive she looked'".
"I don't speak about anyone like that I don't speak like that. I know you. It's just a rumor". "I saw her on the carpet and I told her how handsome she looked".
Chrissy was participating in the Facebook Live when she was asked if she knows "GLOW" star Alison Brie. "I love Alison, I follow her", Metz shared. "She then referred to Alison as a "babe" and the fun exchange ended".
Brie also addressed the rumours, taking to her Instagram stories, writing: "Nothing but love for Chrissy Metz". And, if you listen to the footage, it does sound like that's just what Metz said.
She added, "Rumours can't keep us down".
