Bayern Munich to sign Benjamin Pavard from Stuttgart at end of season

Wednesday's announcement means that, after completing the 2018-19 season with Stuttgart, Pavard will join Bayern in the summer.

The Bavarians, who have somewhat surprisingly struggled in the first half of the Bundesliga season, have announced that Benjamin Pavard will join the club on 1 July 2019, according to sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

Pavard's status skyrocketed last summer when the centre-back scored the goal of the World Cup with a stunning net-busting strike in a 4-3 last-16 win over Argentina that set France on their way to the Russian Federation 2018 title.

The 22-year-old now plays for Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart and was involved in France's 2018 World Cup final victory over Croatia in Russian Federation, a tournament where he also scored a stunning goal in the Round of 16 win over Argentina.

"He is a young player, a world champions and we are happy to have signed him".

Bayern are now second in the Bundesliga table and face a fight to retain their title. Munich meanwhile are attempting to achieve their seventh successive league title, and are six points behind league leaders Borussia Dortmund.

Bayern are in Doha at a winter training camp during a winter break and return to action on 18 January at Hoffenheim.
