How to get rid of your Christmas tree in Baltimore County

City crews will collect trees placed at the curbs along residential waste collection routes.

If December is the month for Christmas trees inside the house, January is the month for leaving them at the curb.

Christmas lights and decorations must be removed from the trees prior to their drop-off.

Recycled trees will be chipped and used as mulch, the website says.

Each tree collected will be turned into soil improver or compost in an attempt to prevent more waste heading to landfill. Each tree placed for collection after January 11 will replace one bag of trash in the contractor's normal six-bag limit.

Pickup dates will vary, so residents should set their trees out by Saturday, Jan. 19, to make sure they are collected. Single-family residences may place excess holiday trash/recyclables in bags alongside their containers on collection day. "They'll end up packed in a snowbank, or they'll get iced in".
