LG to showcase new AI-based soundbar at CES 2019

The units include Meridian's Bass & Space technology created to improve the soundstage, offer strong bass, and envelop listeners in an immersive experience.

All three models, the SL10YG, SL9YG and SL8YG (which are presumably just different sizes) were developed by LG in conjunction with Meridian, known for its digital signal processing.

A release from LG today indicates the soundbars will come with enhancements such as the ability to up-mix two-channel audio to multiple, distinct channels without generating any distortion.

The soundbars promise to integrate smart functionality, sleek and modern designs, and multi-dimensional sound to fill every corner of the room; the sound bars are also equipped with AI. The high-end sound bars, including the SL8, SL9, and SL10, also support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2019) is only a few days away but LG wants everyone to know what to expect from their new soundbar line.

That means you can control the sound bar with commands like, "Hey Google, turn up the volume". At only 57mm (2.25 in) deep, the LG SL9 can also be installed flush to the wall for a clean, streamlined appearance that saves space and makes a sophisticated statement. LG claimed that "with its distinctive form, LG's game-changing SL9 picked up a Best of Innovation honor at the 2019 CES Innovation Awards".

What's more unexpected is the fact that the company made zero mentions of its new AI brand in the context of its latest soundbars, though it may still opt to rebrand them and launch them as part of the ThinQ product family by the time CES kicks off next month.

Among other features, it automatically finds optimal sound based on its environment, utilizing gyro sensors that gauge the position of the product, and helps adjust the direction of sound. Their booth will be inside the Las Vegas Convention Center on Central Hall #11100.
