Oklahoma is in: Sooners snag 4th spot in playoff semifinals

Oklahoma won out over Georgia due to their conference championship, so that's something. Go with the team that didn't get blown out.

Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart made his opinion clear saying, "it boils down to one thing".

"We feel we have a team that can go make a run", OU coach Lincoln Riley said in an interview during ESPN's selection show.

No. 1 Alabama (13-0) will meet No. 4 Oklahoma (12-1) in the other semifinal in the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida. The Tigers won the SEC West in 2017, so they were far from average, and the Bulldogs avenged their lone loss by defeating Auburn 28-7 later on in the SEC Championship Game.

No. 5 Georgia was the first team left out of this year's playoff, while Ohio State came in at No. 6.

The most egregious example of this was Sunday's placement of a 2-loss Georgia team that didn't win a conference championship ahead of a 1-loss Ohio State team that did. They want to win a national championship. "Every combination was vetted, looking at their full body of work, their resumes side-by-side. We'll have a great challenge but one that we're excited about", Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said.

This is Clemson's fourth consecutive College Football Playoff berth.

The College Football Playoff selection committee has spoken and Notre Dame is in the national semifinal. Unbeaten UCF finished eighth in the final rankings, nowhere to be found in the committee's playoff discussion.

Notre Dame did not play this weekend as the Irish finished the regular season with a 24-17 win at Southern Cal on November 24.

Although both offenses are dominant, the defense is what separates the two teams. Of the 20 teams that have been selected, only two have not won a conference title.

Notre Dame (13-0) will be making its first CFP appearance. The Buckeyes were blown out by Purdue in October, similar to the way they lost at Iowa in 2017. Notre Dame's Dexter Williams will have to be at his best for the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish to hang with the No. 2 ranked team in the nation.

We'll know before 1PM if Georgia is joining the playoff party or not.

The Pac-12 was never in the discussion, with its champion Washington finishing 10-3. And sometimes losses can be nearly as good as wins when they need them to be.
