At least six injured in shooting at California bar


The Ventura country fire department tweeted that they were responding to a report of shooting in the city of Thousand Oaks in South California. "From what I heard, the gunman started shooting at the front desk".

'There were three or four and I hit the ground.

Social media reports claim the suspect shot the bouncer before throwing a smoke grenade and firing more shots.

A witness described to ABC7 Eyewitness News hearing at least 12 shots before he escaped out the door, with a security guard down on the floor injured. People threw chairs out of the windows to try to get away.

Another witness said: "This maniac came in".

Ventura County Sheriff's Office Capt. Garo Kuredjian said at a news conference early Thursday that a sheriff's deputy was also shot and taken to a hospital.

Multiple people have reportedly been wounded in a shooting at a bar here, reports CBS Los Angeles.

It's thought that a man opened fire at the bar with a semi-automatic gun at about 11.20pm.

The status of the gunman has not yet been confirmed, but police said they did not believe there was a wider threat to the public.

A police helicopter swirled overhead and officers surrounded the area with cars.

A SWAT team have been pictured surrounding the venue in their formations.

It was college night and country two-step lessons were being offered Wednesday at the Borderline, according to its website.
