USA aviation regulators plan to order airlines to follow Boeing Co.'s advisory on how pilots should handle false readings from a plane sensor that authorities linked to last week's deadly 737 Max jet crash off the coast of Indonesia.
Soerjanto Tjahjono, chairman of Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee, said the problem was similar on each of the four flights, including the doomed one on October 29.
There are also procedures for pilots to follow in the event of missing data from damaged sensors on the fuselage skin, but it remains unclear how much time the crew of flight JT610 had to respond at the relatively low level at which they were flying.
"There were four flights in all that suffered a problem with the airspeed indicator", NTSC head Soerjanto Tjahjono told reporters.
So far, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, which certificated the 737 Max, hasn't taken any steps to require inspections of the plane.
The day before the crash, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 - which had only around 800 flying hours on the clock - had experienced a significant drop in altitude on a flight from Bali to Jakarta, passenger Robbi Gaharu said.
"Whether the trouble came from its indicator, its measuring device or sensor, or a problem with its computer".

Relatives of the victims confronted Lion Air co-founder Rusdi Kirana at a meeting organized by officials on Monday.
Peter Fitzpatrick, a spokesperson for Air Canada, told CBC News it had received the bulletin and was following the plane maker's recommendations, "as we do with all such advisories from manufacturers and government safety regulators".
Bambang Sukandar, whose son was on the flight, said: "Lion Air said the problem was fixed, is it true the problem was cleared? Is this fatal? NTSC wants to explore this", he said. Officials from the navy, search and rescue agency and Lion Air threw wreaths into the sea.

Another relative demanded that a detailed enquiry be conducted in the case which should continue even after the KNKT concludes its investigation or after the airline has compensated victims' families.
At least 105 body bags containing body parts of the passengers have been handed to the disaster victim identification unit of the national police hospital in Jakarta.
Lion Air flight JT 610, carrying 189 people, crashed soon after taking off from Jakarta, the Indonesian capital.
