Amazon plans to split HQ2 evenly between two cities

Numerous cities have been bidding for the online sales giant's second location - including Crystal City in Virginia.Amazon announced back in January it had narrowed its search for the location of its second headquarters to 20 cities.

Amazon's headquarters is in Seattle, where the company's "urban campus" is woven into the fabric of the city.

On Sunday, the WSJ said that Amazon was in "late-stage" talks with a handful of cities including Dallas, New York and Crystal City, Virginia.

Instead, the company has reportedly made a decision to split up its massive second command post into two separate locations-with one half of HQ2 now very likely to land in our city.

The Crystal City location would put Amazon just outside Washington, D.C. Betting websites are picking Northern Virginia as the victor.

The Washington metropolitan area was long considered a top contender for Amazon's second headquarters.

The bidding for Amazon has been intense since the company announced plans to build a second headquarters away from its Seattle hub.

It's unclear what phase the process is at in NY.

"Amazon may select one or more proposals and negotiate with the parties submitting such proposals before making an award decision, or it may select no proposals and enter into no agreement", the company said. No major announcement will come until after the midterm elections on November 6, but the selection of the final site is slated to be revealed before the end of the year.

This report was seemingly corroborated in a tweet from Mike Grella, Amazon's Director of Economic Development, admonishing the source who leaked the Crystal City negotiations to WaPo.
