Derrick Lewis Says Prison, Rough Past Led To UFC Stardom

At UFC 226 a scene straight out of pro wrestling occurred in the octagon at the conclusion of the event.

The heavyweight challenger fights for UFC gold against Daniel Cormier this weekend in NY, and he's talking up his clash in epic style.

Speaking on "Busted Open Radio" recently, Cormier talked about his confrontation with Lesnar. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Brock smiling at me... Jones won on a third-round TKO, but the bout was later ruled a no contest after Jones failed a post-fight drug test. This time, I will buckle my heels into the mat. "He's a smart guy and he isn't tricking me". "I just had to stay longer in the gym".

While physicality is one of Lesnar's calling cards, talking on the mic is not.

It was just a few months ago when Lewis joked that Cormier had "disrespected" Popeyes in a commercial he filmed for the 7th annual World MMA Awards. "I'm sure the crowd's gonna have my back, and I'm gonna make them proud".

"He feels like it would be flawless to fight a guy like me that don't have as much skills on short notice before the Jones fight and he thinks it's going to be an easy fight for him".

"It's insane that people say me and Lesnar would be a mega fight when the reality is the mega fight is Jones and I", Cormier told FloCombat. I'm entering the ring first...then Stipe's music hit and it gors dark. I've been having people doubt me all my life. "Even at that moment, I was like, this is insane".

If victorious, Cormier plans to fight one, maybe two more times before calling it a career and becoming a full-time broadcaster.

The preliminary fights will be available to watch on the UFC's Fight Pass service. But I knew what I was capable of and I just wanted to go out there, relax and move forward, put pressure on and just fight.

"I'll be ready to push him or hit him upside the head". I'm like, 'Oh Brock's here, this adds another layer to the fight, ' as I'm facing the greatest Heavyweight in the world. Brock walked into the arena and that place was electric.

"I mean, I could say I'm going to do one thing, but I'll probably do what I did with (Jimi Manuwa)".

Lesnar is now suspended by USADA having failed a drugs test after his octagon return against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in July 2016, but the WWE star is eligible to fight again in January 2019, leading to rumours a fight between him and DC will be targeted for the new year.
