FOX 46 looked on the map and found that there are over 150 sex offenders in one three-mile radius in Gastonia.

Experts say parents should check the sex offender registry for offenders who live in the neighborhood. Offenders are also forbidden from opening the door for trick-or-treaters.

Previously, they would visit offenders and complete mandatory compliance check - which includes not having Halloween decorations on their property - a few weeks before Halloween.

The sheriff's office uses "Offender Watch", a program that allows community members to register for alerts and search for offenders living in their communities.
