India vs West Indies

Squad for first two ODIs: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, KL Rahul.

Another surprise was the exclusion of both Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who featured for India in the Asia Cup.

Ambati Rayudu, after a good Asia Cup performance, will retain his place even if Kohli decides to play.

Kedar Jadhav, the game-changer at the Asia Cup, who picked up a hamstring injury in Dubai, will be available for selection for the last three ODIs.

India is now playing the home test series against West Indies and are leading 1-0 in the two-match Test series. He had played all five Tests in England and the first one against West Indies in Rajkot, after being hampered with injury issues in the first half of the year.

Pant replaces the seasoned Dinesh Karthik in the 15-man squad. However, 33-year-old Dinesh Karthik, who failed to capitalise his opportunity in the Asia Cup, misses out.

Karthik had played all six matches in the Asia Cup and scored 146 runs at an average of 48.66 but a strike rate of 71.21, only higher than MS Dhoni's (62.09) among Indian batsmen who batted at least twice in the tournament.

"Mohammed Shami has been included precisely for that reason". Kohli's performance against West Indies in the first Test hinted that the Run Machine is perfectly fit and he might not be inclined to take any further rest. The 15-member Indian T20 squad for the WC didn't include senior pacer Shikha Pandey, ODI opener Raut, and wicket-keeper Sushma Verma. Karthik got several starts in the tournament but could not convert them into bigger scores when India lacked solidity in the middle order. The first game will be played in Guwahati on October 21.

Ravindra Jadeja too keeps his place.
