After news broke that Selena Gomez was getting treatment for suffering an 'emotional breakdown, ' her fans flooded social media with sweet messages of support. She was described as "despondent and emotional" over "an alarmingly low white blood cell count", which resulted as a side effect from the kidney transplant operation she had a year ago.

According to TMZ, Gomez was upset because of "an alarmingly low white blood cell count". She was released after a few days but had to return last week with the same issue.

Gomez is now at a treatment center receiving dialectical behavior therapy.

Around this same time a year ago, Gomez shocked fans by revealing that, due to lupus complications, she'd received a kidney transplant from her best friend Francia Raisa over the summer.

The outlet reported that when Gomez insisted upon leaving the hospital and was refused by doctors, she had a "meltdown", sources said, trying to rip an IV out of her arm and undergoing an "emotional breakdown".

"She realized she needed to seek additional help for her ongoing emotional issues", a source told People.

TMZ adds that there have been signals from her camp in the past few weeks.

The It Ain't Me singer - who with 142 million followers is the most popular person on Instagram - previously explained she takes regular social media breaks as she wants to live in the real world. The disease got so serious in 2017, that she had to have a kidney transplant.
