Firmino overcame an abrasion of the eye to come off the substitutes' bench and score a dramatic stoppage-time victor in Liverpool's 3-2 victory in their Champions League opener on Tuesday night.

Liverpool looked as though they had succumbed to dropping two points against Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield before a late victor from Roberto Firmino secured the three points.

Daniel Sturridge rose highest, meeting the cross with a fierce header that nearly went through PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola to give Liverpool the lead on the half-hour mark.

The signings that Liverpool made in the summer are a big reason why I think they will believe they can go one better in the Champions League this season after finishing runners-up last time out.

Roberto Firmino saved his team-mates blushes after scoring an injury time victor to secure a 3-2 win and Salah appeared to vent his relief after being seen throwing a water bottle to the ground in the dug out shortly after the Brazilian had made it 3-2 at Anfield.

Mbappe scored in PSG's 3-2 Champions League defeat to Klopp's Liverpool on Tuesday night and, speaking to RMC Sport (via ITV Sport's Instagram page), the German manager hasn't held back in his praise for the young French forward.

"One, two or three years ago maybe people thought it's a mountain we can not climb".

Conceding in the first minute of stoppage time at the end of an electrifying encounter at Liverpool is just what happened when Tuchel's Borussia Dortmund was beaten 4-3 by Klopp's side in the Europa League quarterfinals in 2016.

"Especially from Mane, who showed up today in the Tottenham match not passing to Salah in more than one chance".

Messi was also at his mesmerizing best as Barcelona swept aside PSV in one of the other games last night. Yes, when you have Bobby Firmino available, you actually always think "come on, bring him", but it was nice to see how Daniel performed tonight and he paid 100 per cent back. "We talked together and there was something very strong between us right away", Salah told France Football.

"We look now much more tuned than it maybe was in the past", he said.

Their solid start has left them level on points with Chelsea FC at the top of the Premier League table. "We're a team and we know that".

The forward has been fit and injury free since then, and his goal will give him a lot of confidence for the future.
