Bishop Michael Bransfield resigns; sexual harassment investigation launched

Christian blogger, speaker and writer for The Daily Wire, Matt Walsh joined Glenn on today's episode of "The Glenn Beck Radio Program", to react to the pope's controversial speech and weigh in on the far-reaching sexual abuse scandals within the church.

Bransfield strongly denied ever abusing anyone and the Wheeling-Charlestown Diocese said it had disproved the claims. Many cases were not brought to justice, and sometimes abuse suspects - primarily priests - were moved to other dioceses without new congregations being informed about the pastor's past, they said.

The investigation and resignation were announced on the same day that Francis is meeting with a delegation of U.S. Catholic cardinals and bishops in the wake of allegations of sex abuse and coverups of wrongdoing.

The archbishop of Baltimore, William E. Lori, has been appointed to fill in on an interim basis in West Virginia - serving in both roles - until a permanent bishop is chosen.

In the September 13 letter, Wuerl also called for a special mass on September 14 that would begin a six-week "season of healing".

Francis removed him in July when the allegations were deemed credible, and since then, several other former seminarians and priests have come forward saying they were also abused or harassed by McCarrick.

In an explosive 11-page letter, Archbishop Viganò, the former apostolic nuncio to the USA, accused Pope Francis of lifting sanctions that were placed upon the former D.C. Cardinal McCarrick during Pope Benedict's reign, going so far to making him a close adviser. "We look forward to actively continuing our discernment together identifying the most effective next steps".

"Bishop Bransfield has been instructed to live outside the diocese", Bishop explained, "pending the completion of the investigation".

I ask you please to include me in your prayers.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) commented Thursday on the sexual abuse and cover-up scandal that is rocking the Catholic church. A damning letter from the former Vatican ambassador to the United States claimed Francis and other high-ranking officials knew about the allegations against McCarrick years ago but turned a blind eye.

In Germany, a church-commissioned study detailed 3,677 abuse cases against minors, mostly boys, between 1946 and 2014, involving 1,670 clergy.

The petition calls for a response to allegations from Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò that the pope learned of sexual abuse accusations lodged against former Cardinal Theodore McCarrick in 2013 and did not take subsequent action.

The church did not provide additional information about the allegations Bransfield faces.

The Vatican has directed Lori to serve as an apostolic administrator to the West Virginia diocese while the investigation is under way and until a new bishop is installed, the release states.
