English Premier League Report: Manchester City v Newcastle United 01 September 2018

Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday, September 1, returned back to winning ways as they defeated vising Newcastle United 2-1 at the Etihad stadium.

The contest will air on BT Sport 1 in the United Kingdom. The Germany global hasn't started any of City's league games this season and didn't even make the squad with reports circulating that Pep Guardiola has grown frustrated with the forward's attitude, but considering the chances his team mates missed, you have to ask if his side missed him.

But he didn't even make the bench for the 2-1 win over Newcastle, which maintained City's unbeaten record going into the worldwide break. "If they decide to play in that way, what we have to do to beat them - that is the trick".

One major talking point from the game though was that last seasons PFA Young Player Of The Year Leroy Sane was left out of City's match day squad.

"I am completely happy with his attitude".

"He played 10 or 12 minutes, he tried". He was not precise but he tried.

Sane had to make do with three cameo appearances from the bench before being dropped on Saturday, while he was brought off at half-time in the Community Shield at the start of August. They convince me, I am satisfied from the moment they run.

Sane was recently recalled to the Germany squad for this month's friendlies with France and Peru after his surprise omission from the World Cup squad in the summer.

The England right back received the ball from Sergio Aguero, took a touch, and fired an angled shot into the bottom corner in the 52nd minute for his first goal in nearly three years.
