DCI Special Agent in Charge Richard Rahn read a statement at the beginning of a press conference on the Mollie Tibbetts investigation at the Poweshiek County Sheriff's Office in Montezuma on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2018.
At a hearing Wednesday, Magistrate Judge Diane Crookham-Johnson granted a state prosecutor's request to raise the bond amount to $5 million. He says the higher bond amount would protect the community.
Rahn said last week that authorities had received more than 1,500 tips and conducted more than 500 interviews in the case.
"This individual has worked at our farms for four years, was vetted through the government's E-Verify system, and was an employee in good standing". A search of Iowa court records revealed no prior criminal history, and it's unclear whether he had ever been subject to prior deportation proceedings. He says that comments by senior government officials, including President Donald Trump, have presumed his client is guilty and media coverage is highlighting those comments.
Cristhian Rivera, age 24, has been charged with first degree murder in the case.
Magistrate Judge Diane Crookham-Johnson rejected Richards' motion.

Craig Lang previously served as president of the Iowa Farm Bureau and president of the Iowa Board of Regents, which governs the state's public universities.
Mr Rahn said Mr Rivera was "very compliant" and willing to talk, and said that he led police to her body. Investigators have said that foul play, including the possibility that she was abducted, could be involved, saying that disappearing on her own would be inconsistent with past behavior. I'm going to call the police.' And the she took off running.
The identity has not been confirmed, but it is believed to be Mollie Tibbetts. "We can not allow these tragedies to continue", they added.
Tibbetts' loved ones had held out hope the 20-year-old student was being held against her will and pleaded for her release, however a body was found on Tuesday on a rural property in Poweshiek County close to the town of Guernsey, around 16 kilometres from Brooklyn where she vanished on July 18. Tibbetts was last seen July 18. Rahn said the discovery has been hard for Mollie's family. Rivera next remembers seeing her earphones on his lap, and taking her bloody body out of the trunk of his auto, it said.
The body of University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts has been found almost a month after her disappearance, the Associated Press reported earlier today. An autopsy will be performed to determine an official cause of death. Earlier today her body was finally located and now authorities have revealed that they were taken to the body by a 24-year-old illegal immigrant who has been charged with her murder.
Tibbetts has been missing since July 18, when she was last seen jogging through the streets of Brooklyn.
