China retaliates with additional tariffs on $16B worth of U.S. goods

China National Petroleum Corporation already has a commercial agreement with Cheniere Energy to buy LNG for 25 years and a few heads of agreements have been signed between United States suppliers and Chinese customers. It would appear, that such a hearing in the trade war is merely a statutory process, and overwhelming objections can be vetoed by a small number of policy makers.

However, the tariff on American condoms seems to be negligible at best for American companies.

The Ministry of Commerce says it would impose tariffs at four different rates (5% to 25%) on the USA goods that would be targeted.

However, President Trump is also engaged in trade disputes with other countries, such as Canada and Mexico, and has imposed separate tariffs on items that include steel and aluminium, washing machines and solar panels. In April, the administration had announced plans to slap tariffs on 1,333 Chinese product lines worth $50 billion a year.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced a 25% charge on $16 billion worth of USA goods.

But the Chinese government can employ other tools if the conflict continues.

Among the products removed from the earlier list on US$16 billion of imports were shipping containers, including those used by freight companies. It could also start to cut the deficit with China over the next couple of years.
