Bernard, 25, was out of contract after leaving Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk in June.

The Colombian has signed a five-year deal, and expressed his delight upon completing his move to Goodison Park, while speaking to the official Everton website.

Everton boss Marco Silva has insisted that Phil Jagielka still has a part to play for the club this season.

Portugal worldwide Gomes endured even greater struggles at LaLiga's champions and has found an escape route in the shape of a season-long loan at Goodison Park, which will cost the Toffees €2.25million.

Manchester United is also eager to sign a center-back and had settled on Mina but the Red Devils have now shifted their focus to Leicester City star Harry Maguire.

"It is important that the club want to fight for something", Mina told Everton TV.

The fee represents a healthy profit for the Spanish champions, who signed Mina from Palmeiras for €11.8m (£10.6m) only in January and obtained a buy-back option in the deal. A loan move for Chelsea's Kurt Zouma was also being worked on after a deal sheet was submitted to the Premier League for the defender. "This is a great opportunity for me", said Mina. But I was also convinced Everton could improve me and that I would be able to show my best as a player here'.

Everton coach Marco Silva finally convinced Gomes to join and he has had his medical for the Premier League side in Barcelona.

'The manager made me feel confident I wanted to play here because of what he's done in the past.
