United's record in opening-day fixtures

Manchester City won the league 19 points ahead of their bitter rivals United last term but Mourinho feels like it was a great success when he takes into account some of the criticism he faced.

Both clubs have England internationals who went on an extended dalliance in Russian Federation and have only recently returned from their holidays. Chelsea and Arsenal, however, have been tipped to finish in the fifth and sixth positions respectively, just like they did in the 2017-18 season.

It's certainly an exciting and tone-setting opening fixture for both the Red Devils and the Foxes.

Chelsea FC ended the 2017-18 season with a trophy following a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last term.

Marouane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard, Ashley Young, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Phil Jones are all in various stages of return to the squad, following the successes of their national sides at the World Cup.

"Is hard for me to understand, to feel, to believe we finish second - which I keep saying, and it is sometimes hard to believe, that I won eight championships and three Premier League's but I keep feeling the second last season was one of my biggest achievements in the game".

Jose Mourinho has taken aim at Liverpool and Tottenham on the eve of the new season, saying they "win nothing" but are painted as "serial winners" while his Manchester United get no credit.

However, with the impending arrivals of Mateo Kovacic on loan from Real Madrid and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in a world record deal, Sarri and his team will hope to break into the top four, after a disappointing last season.

Leicester manager Claude Puel speaking to Sky Sports News on United's interest in Maguire: "For me it's good for Leicester to keep a valuable player, and it's important to show good ambition for the next season".

"We lost Riyad Mahrez, who was a very good player for us".

Mourinho warned United could face a "difficult" season if the club failed to sign new players, but he is insisting he will be content to work with the players in his squad in comments that may not reveal his true feelings after a disappointing few weeks of transfer business.
