Urban Meyer Says He Followed 'Proper Reporting Protocols' For 2015 Abuse Claims

He said he spoke to Meyer in 2015 about the allegations.

In the tweet, Smith admits to having strangled his wife on a trip to Punta Cana. It's a comedown for the man who harbored dreams of being a football coach right from childhood.

"The Ohio State University Board of Trustees today formed a special, independent board working group related to the investigation involving Urban Meyer that was announced on Wednesday".

"He flew off the handle a lot on Twitter and got into debate and confrontations with people he didn't need to do - and sometimes it made him look bad", Wasserman said.

In front of the assembled media in Chicago, Meyer said he knew about the 2009 incident, in which Smith was arrested for aggravated battery on a pregnant victim.

"Of great concern to the committee was the fact that (Tressel) became aware of these violations and decided not to report the violations to institutional officials, the Big Ten Conference or the NCAA", the NCAA Division 1 Committee on Infractions said in a report issued in December 2011. This, even though text messages show that Meyer's own wife suggested Courtney Smith get a restraining order against her ex-husband. It is not clear what contact Meyer had, if any, with university officials about the situation until Smith was sacked last month. In the wake of that news, Meyer fired Smith.

How convenient that nearly simultaneously to Meyer's statement being released on Friday, Zach Smith did an interview with ESPN in which he used words like "honest" and "heartfelt" to describe Meyer's statement. The university has placed Meyer on paid administrative leave.

Two class-action lawsuits were filed last month by former student wrestlers alleging Ohio State turned a blind eye to the doctor's alleged abuse. So, he took all the knowledge and skills he had and made a decision to become a coach instead.

On Thursday, Ohio State barred media access to players and coaches until at least Monday.

We don't know what the future holds for Meyer, of course.

Smith followed Meyer to the Florida Gators football team.

"Please know that the truth is the ultimate power and I am confident that I took appropriate action", Meyer said. I know nothing about it. For that matter: was Smith disciplined at all in 2015? He was dropping off his son at his ex-wife's apartment complex. He said he and Shelley counseled the couple and allowed Zach Smith to remain on his staff.

Courtney Smith was anxious about how all this would affect their two children, who were very young and highly impressionable.

Again, it wouldn't be the first time an institution did this. He and his wife had allegedly connected with the Smiths and encouraged them to seek counseling.

"It was a move they had to make", said Smith, the grandson of former Ohio State coach Earle Bruce.

Smith told ESPN in a separate interview he never assaulted his wife and any physical injuries she might have suffered were the result of him defending himself. "Just stay away", Courtney Smith responded. Meanwhile, Meyer argues that he was totally unaware of this incident. Would Meyer really claim now, in the middle of the firestorm, that he followed proper protocols in 2015 when he actually did nothing? So, what happens to Smith now? It claimed Bohonyi "forced her to trade sex for diving coaching".

Zach Smith was sacked on July 23 after he was served a civil protection order on behalf of Courtney Smith. The Ohio State University Diving Club, where Bohonyi coached, was also named as a defendant.

Before becoming BC's athletic director last year, Jarmond spent seven years in Ohio State's athletic department - rising from associate athletic director in 2009 to executive associate athletic director in 2012 and deputy director of athletics in 2016. He minimized and distorted multiple serious accusations of domestic violence.
