Petition calls for Ohio State to 'save' Urban Meyer amid investigation

"Decisions about actions, based on the findings of the investigation, will be made by the president of the university in consultation with the Board of Trustees", the statement said.

Smith was sacked on July 23 after reports emerged of multiple domestic abuse allegations involving Smith and his ex-wife Courtney.

Smith has never been criminally charged or convicted.

Last week, OSU placed Meyer on administrative leave and ordered an independent board into domestic violence allegations against fired assistant coach Zach Smith.

Meyer issued a statement Friday on Twitter admitting that he lied when he denied knowing about accusations of domestic abuse against Smith, who had been fired by Meyer the day before the Ohio State coach's claims at Big Ten Media Days.

Smith's ex-wife Courtney Smith told Stadium that Meyer's wife knew about the incident in 2015.

The petition was designated to Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith.

Ohio State's policy on sexual misconduct says anyone who supervises faculty, staff, students or volunteers has a duty to report "when they receive a disclosure of sexual misconduct or become aware of information that would lead a reasonable person to believe that sexual misconduct may have occurred involving anyone covered under this policy".
