OnePlus on Monday confirmed that both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will get upgraded to the Android P software update very soon, possibly in the next few months or so. The ill-fated OnePlus 2, released with Android 5.1 (Lollipop) in 2015, never saw an official update beyond Android 6.0, leaving it with a support lifespan of under a year.
"Including our camera improvements and the latest Android security patch, the OxygenOS 5.0.4 update for OnePlus 3 and 3T was released worldwide last week". Adding to that, the OnePlus forum post states that the two smartphones will not receive Android 8.1 Oreo, and will instead be upgraded to Android 9.0 straight from Android 8.0. However, Google broke all precedent when it announced the Android P beta builds would be released to not only the usual Pixel devices but also to a multitude of other partner OEMs, one of which being OnePlus.
However, the company also mentioned that because they are now focusing their efforts on the Android P update for the 3/3T, they are skipping the Android 8.1 update for either devices (they currently run on Android 8.0).
