Unai Emery respects Mesut Ozil's Germany decision says Arsenal is his home

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has backed Mesut Ozil to ignore the "opinion and critique" emanating from Germany over his decision to quit worldwide football and tipped his playmaker to have a "big season" for his club.

Mesut Ozil has arrived in Singapore together with the rest of his Arsenal teammates.

The picture of a smiling Ozil and Erdogan side by side, holding up the team shirt of his English club Arsenal, set off a row in Germany when the photo was snapped in May.

He feels good and has normality with us. The Gunners will play Atletico de Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in two pre-season friendlies on July 26 and 28 respectively as part of the ICC tournament.

The new Arsenal manager Emery might have hoped for a more straightforward assignment as he spoke to the media for the first time in south-east Asia but the morning was overshadowed by the continuing furore surrounding Ozil's decision.

'He has experience, he has quality and he has a great mentality and we are going to help him feel good and to show his quality with us.

"For Ozil it's one thing in the national team and another thing with us. Here I want to help him and everybody in the club is thinking like me, to help him feel happy and to express his quality with us".

"It is with a heavy heart and after much consideration that because of recent events, I will no longer be playing for Germany at worldwide level whilst I have this feeling of racism and disrespect", he said.

And the 29-year-old seemed to be in good shape as he prepared himself for his first training session under the new man in charge at The Emirates.

"As a team we support him here, we try to make sure he feels good, so he can train and perform at his best", said Cech. Ozil is, however, in line to face PSG on Saturday. "It's a test for us to get ready for the new season, so it's something to look forward to".
