Raymond Felton re-signing to push OKC past $300M in payroll, tax

Without plunging too deep into the specifics, the Thunder would be a "repeater tax" team next season, resulting in more punitive dollar-for-dollar penalties for each level it spends above the luxury tax.

Free agent point guard Raymond Felton will return to Oklahoma City in 2018 after signing a one-year deal with the Thunder on Tuesday night.

Felton appeared in all 82 games for the Thunder in 2017-18, averaging 6.9 points and 2.5 assists while shooting 35 percent from downtown.

Anthony earlier this season activated the final year on his multi-season deal with the Thunder, but he remains the best option for any salary sacrifice initiatives the Thunder undertake.

The Thunder are Felton's eighth National Basketball Association team in 13 seasons. Felton proved a consistent performer off the bench in relief of Russell Westbrook for short stretches. According to Wojnarowski, Felton is a "popular teammate and is considered a strong part of the team's good chemistry".

That sure is a lot of coin for a slightly above-average roster. For a group that just bowed out of the playoffs in the first round, that's pretty embarrassing.

In doing so, he would also potentially be part of a new super team, with LeBron James being confirmed a Laker on Sunday while Kawhi Leonard could still join the 16-time champions as well.

Felton doesn't put up 17 points and nine assists per game like he did back in 2010 with the New York Knicks, but he still certainly has his moments.

"I think the glue guy to that group has really been Raymond".

"They welcomed me with open arms and I want them to feel that hype that I have toward what I think we can accomplish there".
