Elon Musk's Team Is Talking With Thai Officials for Cave Rescue

He suggested inserting a one metre diameter nylon tube through the cave network and inflating it.

Then early today (July 6), Musk pledged to send a team of engineers to help.

The Thai government released a statement Friday on Facebook confirming that Musk's team will arrive in Chiang Rai on Saturday. Over the years, he has also used social media to respond to worldwide disasters.

A spokesman for Musk has previously said that the billionaire's companies may assist by trying to pinpoint the boys' precise location using Space Exploration Technologies Corp. or Boring Co. technology, pumping water or providing heavy-duty battery packs known as Tesla Inc. A previous rescue effort has already claimed the life of a former Thai Navy SEAL.

"Should create an air tunnel underwater against cave roof & auto-conform to odd shapes" Musk wrote.

He said engineers from his Boring Co and SpaceX companies needed to be on site to appreciate the complexities of evacuation.

The youth soccer team, aged between 11-15, went missing on June 23 along with their 25-year-old coach.

Rescuers and officials admitted that it could take months before they could all be extracted out of Tham Luang Nang Non safely as Thailand's rainy monsoon season is still on-going and some of the boys don't know how to swim.

But the boys are also safe where they are.

The boys are said to be in good health and have practised wearing diving masks and breathing in preparation for the potential complex dive.

He said the Tham Luang challenge is unique - unlike any other rescue effort around the world - especially in terms of the number of young people trapped inside a complicated cave network.

While a huge amount of water has been pumped out over the past several days, the cave's floodwater level remains high due to the area's mountainous nature.

An air line has been installed to the cave where the group has been trapped for almost two weeks in a chamber in the Tham Luang cave complex.
