US Rapper, XXXTentacion, shot dead

The rapper XXXTentacion was shot and "critically wounded" in Florida, on Monday, a source confirmed to Variety following a TMZ report.

In the midst of the tragedy, a man on scene checked for XXXTentacion's pulse.

Florida rappers Soldier JoJo and Kidd, who were blamed by fans for the death of XXX, denied involvement in the murder, and took to Instagram to proclaim their innocence.

According to TMZ, two armed suspects approached his vehicle as he left a motorcycle dealership where he'd been checking out new rides.

Police in Broward County said XXXTentacion was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to emergency dispatch audio obtained by The Blast, officials believe the shooting was a possible drive-by after witnesses reported hearing several gunshots. Both of the suspects fled in a dark-color SUV.

Broward Sheriff's Office is hoping to trace the two suspects. A video appeared to show him punching a pregnant woman - his lawyers said the video was "completely in jest" - and he was awaiting trial in the beating of his pregnant girlfriend.

"I've been seeing a lot of comments, I been seeing a lot of thangs going on in social media, saying I had something to do with XXXTentacion's passing, Kidd said".

Others acknowledged Onfroy's failings, but honoured the rapper's impact on the hip hop community and called for anyone praising his death to reconsider what they are doing. The rapper was now on house arrest at his $1.4 million Parkland home awaiting trial for multiple charges, including domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and aggravated battery of a pregnant woman.

He quickly became the most popular artist in the genre known as SoundCloud Rap, defined by its languid, hazy beats and wide-ranging influences.

His manager, Taylor Maglin, wrote on Facebook: "I lost my brother today and it's the worst feeling in the world".
