Avengers: Infinity War Passes $2 Billion Mark

The supersized superhero hit Avengers: Infinity War has crossed US$2 billion in worldwide ticket sales, becoming only the fourth film to reach that rarified box-office milestone. But as the marketing for "Infinity War" progressed, it became increasingly clear that Hawkeye will not play a part in the Avengers' initial bout against Thanos.

It's only the fourth movie to ever achieve such a feat, joining 2009's Avatar, 1997's Titanic, and 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

While all the MCU films have had post-credits scenes that teased upcoming installments in an ever-expanding cinematic universe, Infinity War was the first film to end on a straight-up cliffhanger. And that's not all -domestically, Infinity War is the fifth highest grossing film of all time with $656.1 million. In China, the film's biggest overseas territory, and the second highest-collecting region after North America, Infinity War has raked in an excellent gross of $369.7 million until 12 June.

Fans first noticed Hawkeye's absence following the release of the movie's first trailer November of previous year. Infinity War was a top performer in China, opening to the sweet tune of a reported $200 million, as well as in the United Kingdom, South Korea, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia, among others.
