Order of Australia Council chairman Shane Stone said the boost in female recipients is an encouraging step towards acknowledging the significant contribution women have made to the Australian way of life. "We can do better than this and we will continue to strive to do better", Stone added.
Malcolm Richardson, a magistrate in North Avon and then South Gloucestershire for more than 25 years, and former national chairman of the Magistrates" Association, has been recognised in the honours list for "services to the administration of justice'.
Throughout her career she has been a strong advocate for marriage equality.
Actor Tom Hardy has also been honoured with a CBE, while boxer Anthony Joshua will receive the same title.
He was made an OBE in 2007 for his work. Fenella has appeared on stage professionally for sixty-six years. The youngest victor is Menna Fitzpatrick, 20, team GB's most decorated winter paralympian - who also receives an MBE.

Ms Dynamite is honoured with an MBE, under her real name Niomi McLean-Daley, for services to music, while Mobo Awards founder Kanya King receives a CBE for services to music and culture.
Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove has led a push in recent years to encourage people to nominate more women for awards like the Queen's Birthday Honours and Australia Day awards in an attempt to end the domination of men on the lists.
Other prominent awards include damehoods for Emma Thompson (for services to drama) and Mary Beard (for services to study of classical civilisations) and knighthoods for Nobel Laureate Kazuo Ishiguro (for services to literature), Simon Schama, and Kenny Dalglish.
