Kim was accompanied at the meeting by vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Kim Yong Chol, chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the WPK Ri Su Yong, and Colonel General No Kwang Chol - one of the three promoted in a recent North Korean military shakeup.
Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong posted on his official Twitter account a picture of him shaking hands with Kim upon his arrival.
As for Kim Jong Un, he was raised in Switzerland and has experienced Western culture. The two are scheduled to meet for the first time Tuesday morning. "And obviously, what has been done before hasn't worked".
But in their joint appearance, the mercurial United States president also displayed his instinct to make the sensitive, technical diplomatic effort into a dramatic world-stopping event.
During a promotional event dubbed the "real" Trump-Kim summit, the men waved at shoppers as they walked through the crowded Bugis Junction mall. At the G7 summit in Canada and in the hours afterward, Trump railed against trade practices that he described as unfair and said he'd given us representatives instructions to rescind an agreement to official communique that outlined a mutual plan to ensure "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade".
Raising expectations in advance of the meeting, Trump said the outcome will depend heavily on his own instincts.
She said Sung Kim, the USA ambassador to the Philippines, who has taken the lead on policy negotiations with the North, was set to hold a working group with a North Korean delegation at 10 a.m. Monday.
"I think I'll know pretty quickly whether or not, in my opinion, something positive will happen", Trump said Saturday.

Now North Korean officials will nearly certainly emphasise preventing any sudden mishaps in Kim Jong Un's first visit to a foreign country other than China or South Korea since taking power, said Kim Doo-hyun, professor of protection politics at Korea National Sport University.
The file, which according to Axios was pieced together after extensive interviews with teachers, students and others who had contact with him at a prestigious Swiss boarding school, shows a young Kim Jong Un as a boy prone to violence, gluttony and considering others as slaves.
But, prior to leaving Canada, the mercurial president again changed his tune, calling it a "one-time shot" and adding that he would know "within the first minute" of meeting Kim whether an agreement will be possible.
The historic meeting is not expected to last longer than one day, although when the summit will wrap up Tuesday is unclear.
In recent weeks, though, Trump's enthusiasm has been tempered somewhat by the challenge of deal-making with such an unpredictable opponent.
"We are the ones who have been talking about putting it on the table", he said.
