I think we're both relieved by the fact that we both respect each other's work.

President Obama, who made a guest appearance on "Parts Unknown" in 2016, tweeted a touching photo and memory of Bourdain.

"When he goes somewhere, he always finds the place where he can find the root of the culture", Mecinas said.

In the post, Wang recounted the time he came face-to-face with Bourdain again for an interview in 2015.

"Although they're separated, she'll be in charge of whatever happens", she said. Champion Lucal Lepri, who trained Bourdain at his home in the Hamptons, recalled how his student surprised him one day with a home-cooked meal inspired by Lepri's native Brazil.

But on Thursday night, when Mr. Bourdain didn't show up for dinner, he said: "Mr. Ripert thought it was odd". I didn't talk to him this week but all I know was he was so happy last week. "I was flabbergasted because he was talking about the underbelly of kitchen, which we saw when we started as junior chefs. As any chef will tell you, our entire service economy-the restaurant business as we know it-in most American cities, would collapse overnight without Mexican workers".

"There have been times, honestly, in my life that I figured, I've had a good run - why not just do this stupid thing, this selfish thing ... jump off a cliff into water of indeterminate depth", he said.
