Divers search pond after reported gator attack

Local media report officers found a dog on a leash but no signs of the woman at Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park.

According to Local 10 News, a witness told police he saw the woman walking her two pit bulls on the path around the Silver Lakes Rotary Nature Park, which sits between Stirling and Griffin roads just west of the Turnpike. Davie police said that one of them was injured by a gator.

The three dogs are now in custody of Broward Animal Care.

He assisted investigators in confirming the arm belonged to the woman because of a distinctive tattoo located on the body part.

Davie Police Detective Viviana Gallinal now says the witness told authorities he saw the woman walking two dogs and then noticed the dogs barking near the water. Another woman said that her poodle vanished near the lake on Christmas and she suspected the dog had been eaten.

A gator is seen at the scene where authorities are looking for a woman.

Trappers have spotted an alligator in the pond that is about 12 feet long and were watching it, Gallinal said.

Authorities later said evidence suggested that the reptile bit the victim.

Human remains were found inside the gator, authorities said.
