Justify draws barrier seven for Preakness

Trained by the Triple Crown-winning Bob Baffert, he drew Post 7, same as he had in the Derby, and was installed as the 1-2 morning-line favorite during the draw on Wednesday at Pimlico Race Course.

Justify is expected to remain a favorite two weeks after beating Good Magic by 2 1/2 lengths in the Kentucky Derby. Baffert and Lukas raced quarter horses at Ruidoso Downs early in their Hall of Fame careers.

The undefeated Kentucky Derby victor Justify will be the solid favorite to take the Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown, and complete wagering will be offered at Billy's Race Book in the Billy the Kid Casino at Ruidoso Downs on Saturday. Plus, he also won at Santa Anita Park in the wet in March.

Roswell, New Mexico native Mike Smith will ride Justify for Baffert, who is trying for a record-equaling seventh Preakness win.

The post draw can be watched live on Pimlico's official website or on the Preakness Stakes Facebook page. Before we delve into the expected runners for this year's field, it's important to remember that all racetracks drain differently - some main tracks are better suited and/or designed than others to accommodate a deluge of rain - and each track has its own crew that works to make the surface the best it can be on race day. John Cherwa from the Los Angeles Times asks the big question: can Justify repeat at the Preakness?

"I don't think I'll be next to him very long, " Bravazo trainer Wayne Lukas said of Justify.

Good Magic is back to challenge Justify again, along with Bravazo and Lone Sailor, which finished sixth and eighth in the Kentucky Derby, respectively. His jockey in the Derby, Luis Contreras, said, "I was surprised how good he handled the sloppy track".

In addition to Good Magic, who returns for the Preakness, Curlin has a second shot at this edition with Triple Crown newcomer Tenfold.

There are straws to be grabbed if you're looking for a reason to doubt Justify and have a good feeling about another horse in the race.
