Scott Arfield's Burnley exit confirmed


Rangers have moved to the brink of completing the transfer of Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.

The 29-year-old, who initially joined Huddersfield Town from the Bairns in 2010, has been capped 12 times for Canada, scoring once, despite featuring 17 times for Scotland Under-21s.

"I fully believe I can handle the expectation at a club like this".

Arfield's excitement intensified when he discovered Steven Gerrard was going to be his new manager.

There's immediately been plenty of speculation as to who Gerrard's first addition would be, with several of his former Liverpool colleagues tipped to make the switch to Ibrox. 'We go up to Glasgow and we will give it our best'.

How big a role Arfield can play in that remains to be seen. "With Gary McAllister as well, it's exciting and I'm so happy to be part of it".

"I'm excited to work with Steven Gerrard - if you don't get excited by that you shouldn't walk through the front door".

"It's excitement in terms of the challenge that lies ahead, and the opportunity for me to progress as a manager - which is what I want to do for many, many years", Gerrard told Liverpool's official website.

"The stature of him suits a club of this stature".

Speaking on being Gerrard" first signing, Arield said, "Of course there is pride.

The Canada internationalist was a free agent after his deal with Premier League outfit Burnley expired at the end of the campaign.

"I said cheerio to them yesterday but I think I'll be seeing them in three weeks or something", said Arfield. "It was the flawless time to leave".
