Amazon to add another 3000 jobs in Canada

Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson, meanwhile, called the announcement "great news for our city's booming innovation economy".

Online retailer Amazon, with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on hand, announced Monday it will add 3,000 jobs in Vancouver, about 150 miles (240 kilometers) north of its Seattle headquarters.

"Our vibrant cities, which are home to some of the best talent in the world, are poised to attract premier investment that creates the jobs of tomorrow", said Trudeau.

The event will take place outside the old Canada Post headquarters on Georgia Street, leading some to speculate it could become the site of the new Amazon office announced in November.

Toronto was the only Canadian city to make the final cut for Amazon's second headquarters; however, the company is opening a second corporate office in Vancouver. Amazon has stated that they will be filling over 3,000 new positions and the vast majority will be focusing on the technology and business.

The office is slated to open in 2022. The company expects to employ 5,000 people in Vancouver in the coming years.

Amazon will soon have an even bigger presence in Vancouver.

There are also tens of thousands of small and medium-sized businesses, authors, and entrepreneurs in Canada who are growing their businesses with tools like Marketplace, Fulfillment By Amazon, Kindle Direct Publishing, and AWS.

For his part, Amazon vice president of Canada and Mexico Gagnon said the company was "excited" to create 3000 new "highly-skilled" jobs in Vancouver. "I've loved working here as we've continued to grow", said Rebecca McKnight, an Amazon software development engineer, during Monday's announcement.
